Manhunt Episodes 1 & 2 Fact-Check: 12 Biggest True Story Changes & Inaccuracies

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT While Apple TV+'s historical drama miniseries Manhunt hits most of the major notes surrounding the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth's subsequent flight south. However, as is often the case with modern dramatic examinations of historical events, plenty of liberties are taken to create a stronger narrative.

5 Booth Didn't Escape Washington Thanks To A Starstruck Sentry He did talk his way over the closed bridge, but not because he was recognized as an actor. The pivotal moment in John Wilkes Booth's immediate escape from Washington, D.C. shown in Manhunt was an encounter with a Union Army bridge sentry. Booth attempts to cross the bridge out of the city despite it being past curfew, and it appears as if he'll be rebuffed until the sentry recognizes him as a famous actor.

8 Mary Simms Never Interacted With John Wilkes Booth The former slave ws never even on Mudd's property when Booth arrived. The Mary Simms depicted in Manhunt seems to be more heavily involved in the hunt for Booth than her real-life counterpart as a way to represent the courage of all the formerly enslaved individuals who testified in the Lincoln assassination trial.
