A Virginia man was arrested by police Friday night for possessing an unregistered handgun and 500 rounds of ammunition after he drove to a U.S. Capitol security checkpoint and presented unauthorized credentials for the presidential inauguration.
Wesley Beeler, 31 years old, of Front Royal, Va., has been charged with illegal possession of a weapon and ammunition among other crimes, according to police reports and court documents. U.S. Capitol Police approached Mr. Beeler’s vehicle around 6:30 p.m. Friday at the E Street NE entrance toThe rear windshield of the Ford pickup driven by Mr. Beeler had several gun-related decals on it, including one that said, “If they come for your guns, give ’em your bullets first,” according to a police statement filed in a District of Columbia court on Saturday.
Police checked the credential he presented against its authorized access list and confirmed he didn’t have permission to enter the area, according to the statement.
He was a private security guard that has since been released.

But in many states, a gun owner doesn’t have to register a guns or get a background check to buy one. There is actually no way to know how many guns are in the hands of individuals in the U.S. at any time, & what people own or have stockpiled. Same for ammo. Fed or Civilian test?

The man was a security guard hired to protect the US Capitol with real credentials, only they weren’t the credentials authorized for the area. The handgun was registered but he didn’t have a permit to carry in his car.
