A man who officials say sold the gun to the Colleyville synagogue hostage-taker earlier this month is facing a federal firearm charge, authorities...

FBI investigators linked Williams to Akram through Akram’s cellphone records, which showed they had contacted each other from Jan. 11 to Jan. 13 and were in the same area on Jan. 13.

Williams told investigators the day after the synagogue attack that he remembered meeting a man with a British accent but that he couldn’t remember his name, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. Akram was a British citizen. Williams was questioned again after he was arrested on an outstanding warrant this week. After seeing a photo of Akram, he confirmed that he sold the gun to the hostage-taker at an intersection in South Dallas, federal authorities said.

Williams told investigators that Akram said the gun was going to be used for “intimidation” to get money from someone, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.Williams made his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon and will have a detention hearing Monday. Matthew DeSarno, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Dallas office, said in a written statement that authorities had worked “around the clock” to determine how Akram, 44, acquired the handgun he used to take four people, including Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker, hostage inside the Colleyville synagogue during a Shabbat service that was being broadcast online.“As a convicted felon, Mr. Williams was prohibited from carrying, acquiring, or selling firearms,” U.S. Attorney Chad E.
