Sept. 14, 2021 -- The family of an Alabama man used his obituary to plead with people to become vaccinated against COVID-19.
Ray Martin DeMonia, 73, of Cullman, AL., ran an antiques business for 40 years and served as an auctioneer at charity events, theHe had a stroke in 2020 during the first months of the COVID pandemic and made sure to get vaccinated, his daughter, Raven DeMonia, told“He knew what the vaccine meant for his health and what it meant to staying alive,” she said. “He said, ‘I just want to get back to shaking hands with people, selling stuff and talking antiques.
About 12 hours after he was admitted, her mother got a call from the hospital saying they’d called 43 hospitals and were unable to find a"specialized cardiac ICU bed" for him, Raven DeMonia told theHe was finally airlifted to Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, MS., almost 200 miles from his home, but died there Sept. 1. His family decided to make a plea for increased vaccinations in his obituary.
“In honor of Ray, please get vaccinated if you have not, in an effort to free up resources for non COVID related emergencies,” the obit said. “Due to COVID 19, CRMC emergency staff contacted 43 hospitals in 3 states in search of a Cardiac ICU bed and finally located one in Meridian, MS. He would not want any other family to go through what his did.”The Alabama Hospital Association says state hospitals still short of ICU beds.
, citing CDC data, said 53.7% of people in Alabama were fully vaccinated. In comparison, 53.8% of all Americans nationally are fully vaccinated.“Alabama man dies after being turned away from 43 hospitals as covid packs ICUs, family says”Alabama Hospital Association
How could they turn him away couldn't they board him in the ED? I thought hospitals had to follow EMTLA. I wish everyone would get vaccinated so we can stop this from happening.
This is a completely incorrect statement. Censorship should remove and report this post for misinformation. Using scare tactics to promote the Covid cause. Great Reset
Really? According to HHS, under 10% of hospital beds in use in Alabama are taken by COVID-19 patients.
Those folks who are refusing vaccinations are nothing but *selfish.* Vaccinations protect *everyone*!
👩🏾🍳🧑🦼💉💉We have always been a civilized society but we must now review our moral of our hospitals are full taking care of the non vaccinated we must understand it was their choice not to be vaccinated and the doctors and hospitals are doing their very best get the shot
back2thebedroom Is that the full story?
But his freedom mattered more! Oh, wait, he's dead? My bad, sorry.
I'm sorry for their loss!
His family should sue
I bet 40 of those 43 were already vaccinated and we aren’t getting the full details.
Don’t use people like this poor family as scare tactics! There were literally 100s of thousands of people at sports venues this weekend. Covid or money, the decision must be made
😂😂😂😂😂🤡
fake
How many and how many Christian Americans mock this family
