, who played Ryan in"High School Musical," says he would steer clear from the gay character role nowadays ... so as not to take a job away from a gay actor.
Lucas tells TMZ ... the last thing he would want to do is take an opportunity away from another actor, and as a straight, white man he feels he's already taken plenty of opportunities away from others without even trying. Guy owns his white privilege. As you know ... the director behind 'HSM' recently revealed Ryan was gay all along, but he says Ryan wasn't openly gay in the movies, because back in 2006 he didn't think Disney was ready for such a character.
Lots have changed since Lucas played Ryan in the Disney Channel Movie 14 years ago ... and he thinks a gay actor would be cast for the role if the movie was being made today, and he hopes the character would not have to hide his identity., saying the black character should be voiced by a black actor.
As for gay characters like Ryan, Lucas says it's finally time for Disney and others in the industry to start educating children about gay people at the youngest age possible.
Who cares!!
If you’re in a musical, we just assume your gay
He received therapy and now he's straight.
did he just realize Ryan Evans was supposed to be gay. like wasn’t it obvious when he was flirting with Chad
Who is this guy ?
Good
MrGrabeel Your worried or concerned you might of took a job from someone else, but it wasn't their's in the 1st place. Everyone has a equal chance to get the part, and you just what they were looking for at that time.
MrGrabeel I am also sure a lot of gay men go out for straight roles and straight men get passed up for those as well. It's nothing personal I think it's more up to the casting director to decide who gets what role.
MrGrabeel I hope you don't take this personally. I get what you are saying about not wanting to take a role away from someone but I am sure a lot of gay men went out for this part and they got passed up for a reason.
How does that role even hurt anyone?! OMGGGGGGG FUCKING STOP! THAT’S NOT THE POINT!!!!
Barney Stinson would like a word...
That mean. Gay men can only play gay men. ?
He does know Mickey Mouse was not played by real mouse. Burn the framed keepsake
He should be called Lucas GAYbreel
🚬
I heard that last night I'm still devastated I missed the first gay High School Musical I probably wouldn't watch because it'll be too difficult for me to catch up
nobody wants him anyways
huh
Just suck it up
I didn't necessarily think Ryan was gay? I just thought he was a 'theatre geek.' I don't recall anywhere in HSM that Ryan expressed an interest in one of the guys?
Who cares don’t ruin the magic of high school musical
Closet is getting smaller. He wants to pop out.
Well it is Adam and Eve NOT Adam and Steve. I don’t like poop pushers either!!!!
Yeah
so are gay actors happy never to be cast as straights?
who isn’t gay in a musical
Who?
It was literally a high school musical. Of course someone was gay. 💀
Wait there’s gonna be a new high school musical?
Good for him.
Ridiculous
It’s time that we start talking about Randy Quaid’s portrayal of an Amish person in Kingpin.
If you can only play yourself, that’s not acting. Gay actors can play straight characters too 🤦♀️
Read the article before jumping into conclusions, dummies. He has a point.
Okay Who is he? 🙄
He’s straight
Well there goes hope for the ryan solo Disney+ movie
According to your looks, YOU SHOULD!
Good for him... his choice right.
Utterly meaningless
Wow what a homophobe
And it's acting. I don't mind if a gay character is played by a gay or straight actor as long as he delivers a good performance and he isn't going to the press to whine about how hard it was to kiss a man.
itsJazzB
This actor has been trying to convince everyone he's straight for the past twenty years. When he did 'Milk', he was pulling the same stunts about how he's straight and playing gay didn't mean he was gay. Someone's coming off as insecure.
thank you I really needed this info to continue with my life
I can't believe that that's terrible I'd be even more devastated if I knew who he was
