Garoppolo battled through a torn ligament and chipped bone in his right thumb to lead the Niners in their escape act down in Los Angeles last week. It was Garoppolo’s ninth time leading a 49ers fourth-quarter comeback in his five seasons in red and gold — and all three from this season have happened on the road .
Perhaps even more important to the 49ers’ chances of winning is the return of Trent Williams, who missed Week 18 with an elbow injury but wasn’t even listed on the injury report after practicing on Thursday and Friday. The standout left tackle was named to the All-Pro this week after earning a starting nod in the Pro Bowl last month.
For the Cowboys, left tackle Tyron Smith, star rookie linebacker Micah Parsons, cornerback Anthony Brown and safety Jayron Kearse all were activated from the COVID reserve list this week as the virus ran through the team and its staff last week. Like the 49ers, Dallas is about as healthy as it could be entering the playoffs, too.
