denied tenure at esteemed higher-learning institutions
West has said he believes race was a factor in his not getting tenure. He had previously held tenure during his last stint at Harvard and has also held a tenured position at Princeton University. He said his teaching has been significantly limited by Havard's failure to grant him that protection. During the three-month dispute over West's tenure debate with Harvard, New York Times journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones publicly announced herwith her alma mater, the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
UNC said it is "disappointed" that Hannah-Jones won't be joining the faculty" and that the school is working "toward a more inclusive and equitable campus," in a statement released on July 6. He noted the "invisible" responsibilities that professors of color take on that typically fall outside of their job description on paper. In large part, he said, this stems from their relationship with students of color. These professors fulfill the role of a mentor and encourage professional development.
ABC News' data analysis has found that non-white students at universities with more diverse faculty have higher graduation rates.
U claim to be academician but distort data. Which H.Ed. institutions haven't tenured Black 'academics' w/o performance standards? US & H.Ed. spent billions $ on diversity. BLM calls for separate ethnicity/equity anti-diversity! I was in H.Ed. 35 yrs. All black edu. got tenure.
Maybe diverse students can’t afford those colleges—or dare I say it—qualify for them. I’m a diverse person and I flunked college because I couldn’t cut it. I blame no one but myself.
wait until these woke kids realize that they're actually asking for more conservative teachers
You mean, ugh, “racism”?
No concern over the greedy cost of tuition those Universities charge? That’s what matters to broke college kids; just trying to get educated not indoctrinated with woke garbage or racist CRT nonsense.
You mean backlash over their commitment to systematic racism incl discriminating against Asian applicants.
Probably have more diversity if Asians weren't required to have higher scores and grades than anyone else.
Trust something called Yahoo for important news, Goofballs for legal representation, and Buffoons for complex medical problems. Where do you work? Yah . . . Oh never mind
High profile is often gained by controversial publication, and not by academic excellence. Cornel West is a prime example. His views on 'white supremacy' totally ignore the fact that some groups that have been discriminated in the past reached higher average incomes than whites.
Oh you mean the degree to which they specifically choose people based upon the color of their skin? Ya, an odd commitment tbh.
Cornel West faced backlash (was fired) over his support for Palestine, not support for diversity.
Yeah, that’s actually not the problem, YahooNews
