This record, set at the Up Dawg Ten Miler, is just the latest achievement in D’Amato’s otherworldly 2020 season.

“I wasn’t really that shocked by my time, because I’ve been putting the pedal to the metal in my training,” D’Amato told. “But it didn’t hit me immediately that I had run under the Olympic standard.” For women, the 2020 Olympic standard for the 5,000 meters is 15:10.

In July, she returned to the track to win the 10,000 meters in 32:33 at a COVID-adjusted meet in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she set a personal best., another career best performance. Sixteen days later, D’Amato won the Sugar Run 5K Classic in 15:08 against Olympian Aisha Praught Leer in Memphis, Tennessee.A four-time All-American and 11-time Patriot League individual champion, D’Amato graduated in 2006 and started training as an elite runner under Scott Raczko.
