’s stylist, Young has been the force behind some of the greatest celebrity fashion moments in recent memory. Still, you don’t have to be a Hollywood A-lister to benefit from her expert eye. Young’s latest project takes her vision into new territory, sharing her expertise with the internet via a newly launched YouTube channel.
Young’s entry to the video platform came courtesy of a former colleague, Derek Blasberg, YouTube’s Fashion and Beauty partnerships lead. The pair began their careers atin the aughts and have remained close ever since. Blasberg has been encouraging Young to dip her toes into video for years. It was only after 2020’s lockdown that she began to consider the idea seriously.
Young’s channel aims to fill that void, offering vital behind-the-scenes information and conversations with some of the most knowledgeable people in fashion and entertainment. It promises to delve into topics most fashion programs barely touch on: how outfits are chosen for big events, what happens in the atelier, and how a design goes from idea to reality. “I wanted something that was about the craft and the art,” says Young. “To show the kind of work that we do and what goes into it.
First up, a closer look at the two couture looks Gomez wore in the album art of her first Spanish language release, Revelación complete with interviews of the talents who made the visuals possible. Gomez reveals what it was like wearing each piece, Giambattsita Valli shares a spirited making of, and florist Laurel St. Romain talks making magical headpieces from fresh flowers. Each segment offers a window into the creative process.
If this formula reminds viewers of anything, Young hopes it’s the addictive cooking shows which have taken over streaming platforms and cable TV. Viewers at home may never attempt to enter the Great British Baking Show, but watching Mary Berry breakdown why a recipe works or doesn’t gives them the tools to better understand the culinary arts, exactly the kind of immersive and educational experience Young hopes to bring to fashion.
