Sen. Kamala Harris addresses a campaign rally Sunday at Morehouse College in Atlanta.
Harris previewed her plan in a Houston speech Saturday, saying that"you can judge a society by the way it treats its children, and one of the greatest expressions of love that a society can give to its children is educating those children with resources they need." The campaign estimates this will cost $315 billion over a decade, paid for by strengthening the estate tax and closing tax loopholes that benefit the rich.
"What she's doing is saying personnel is absolutely key in terms of teaching, and she is investing in our personnel, she's investing in teaching," she said. The issue of teacher pay and education spending has been cause for strikes in a number of states. In Harris' hometown of Oakland, striking teachers recently went back to their classrooms following a weeklong strike after union members voted to approve a contract agreement that provided pay raises.
One of the most respected jobs out there. The teachers hands are always out there saying we do and give and work harder than anyone else and we DESERVE more than anyone else in raises, benefits and more.
Underpayment? They work 10 months a year make a living wage retire with a pension that pays them more than when they were working. Btw if u removed all the illegals you could pay teachers more
Besides a good retirement and health insurance, teachers in some school districts here are making $90K+, which is almost double the average in our state, it is all about where you teach
Considering teachers are doing half the job they should be doing, they’re being compensated just fine. Our public schools are total failures - esp in our inner cities. Privatize education with school vouchers & stop Dems and unions from using kids as cash cows.

She’s full of it. Teachers are very well paid and thanks to the teachers unions, their retirement benefits contribute to the destabilization of city budgets.
The underpaid-teachers narrative is a myth. They are paid very well for their job. They have the summers off. They have excellent health and retirement benefits. The reason Democrats keep beating this dead horse is because teachers unions support Democrats 100%. Follow the money.
