Jon Stewart will receive the Mark Twain Prize for lifetime achievement in humor at the Kennedy Center on Sunday night. The comedian, talk show host and political influencer is the 23rd recipient of the prize.

Stewart, the 23rd recipient of the prize, will be honored by testimonials and skits from fellow comedians and previous Mark Twain recipients. Stewart himself spoke during Dave Chappelle’s Mark Twain ceremony in 2019.

The 59-year-old Stewart — born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz — rose to prominence as a standup comic and host of multiple failed talk shows before taking over Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” in 1999. His 16-year run as “Daily Show” host turned him into a cultural and political force as Stewart trained his satirical eye on both politics and an increasingly polarized national media.

In perhaps his most iconic moment, Stewart went on CNN’s popular “Crossfire” debate show in 2004 and challenged the show’s entire premise of left-wing vs. right-wing debate. Stewart told co-hosts Tucker Carlson and Paul Begala they had a “responsibility to the public discourse” that they were cheapening with insincere political role-playing.

Well deserved

He has earned it. Congratulations, Jon.

I thought this award was reserved for people who are funny. Jon Stewart never got a laugh with a line he wrote. He was an awful stand up and his new Apple TV show is decidedly unfunny because he doesn't have the writing staff he had on The Daily Show.

Hopefully is not for his current abyssal intellectual fall.

He deserves it

Well deserved

Wow…and long after he ceased to be funny.

still enjoy his famous cnn visit with tucker Carlson till this day, this prize is very much well deserved.

He might try to give a hint or two on humility to that clown Noah!

Gratz! jonstewart ^.^

I mean he basically had his own paved road already going and then when Carlin died, Stewart became the new Carlin. Good for him. He's always been super good, anyone who disputes that is blinded by politics. (Unless someone has inside info I am not aware of.)

Its crazy we now have analysts instead of 'journalists' and we are left with listening to comedians deliver news to us

His best work is Big Daddy

Kilborn

Really. Really. ForReal rollininthedeep how many twains deep - hard to fathom isn’t it Hemingwayknew Aviciiknew

Wasn’t Twain a writer, though?
