Manhattan Reps. Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney will face each other in a Democratic primary for Congress this summer after redrawn maps put the two in the same district. Nadler has been in Congress since 1992, and Maloney since 1993.

The state's congressional primary is expected Aug. 23. It was postponed after a judge threw out maps drawn by a redistricting commission and assigned the task to a special master.

A draft of that special master's maps came out Monday morning, showing Nadler and Maloney might be pitted against each other. The new 12th district spans essentially the middle third of Manhattan.Nadler is the chair of the House Judiciary Committee and Maloney the chair of the House Oversight Committee, making them two of the most powerful members of Congress.

Nadler and Maloney aren't the only incumbents with a sudden primary problem thanks to the new maps. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, currently represents the 18th District but said he would run in the 17th in the new maps.

Perspective | Carolyn Hax: Job-hunter trying a new career feels like a fraudPerspective: A middle-age job hunter is changing careers and feels like a fraud for even applying for jobs “I've never done before.” I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ve met plenty of people with loads of experience that are objectively terrible at their jobs. Better to be capable and willing to learn than to have the perfect resume. At 45 I switched from a white collar management role to learn a trade. 3 years into being an electrician and way fucking happier. It was tough but no one ever said life was fair or easy.
