RIO DE JANEIRO/SAO PAULO - Investors were skeptical on Sunday about the surprise decision by Brazil’s Vale SA to remove its high-profile chief executive in the wake of a deadly January accident at one of the world’s largest iron ore miner’s facilities.

Investors and analysts raised questions about his replacement, the head of the firm’s base metals division Eduardo Bartolomeo, who is a little-known quantity in the markets, unlike Schvartsman. He called the change a “relevant loss” for the company given Schvartsman’s “high caliber and proximity to markets.”

Prosecutors are looking into what happened at Corrego do Feijao. While it is not yet clear the extent to which executives knew of the dangers at the mine, documents have emerged in recent weeks showing that some at the firm knew the dam had an elevated risk of rupture.

Vale investors value profits over safety and are surprised when the golden boys are arrested for killing 300 + people in 2nd disaster? Seriously?

So, investors didn't agree with this change... maybe because none of those relatives were buried alive by 10m in depth of iron ore residues.

No surprise at all for the Brazilian People. More the 300 hundred people died because of Vale High Risk Operatiobal Profile in Brumadinho Mibe. The CEO may find another position. Death people cannot return anymore.

Vale Could Face $7 Billion Fine in Connection With Audit of Mining Dam That Preceded CollapseBrazilian mining giant Vale SA could face a close to $7 billion fine if convicted of colluding with safety auditors to hide unsafe conditions at the dam that collapsed and killed more than 180 people near Brumadinho. Not nearly enough. like the Johnstown Flood, May 31, 1889. Interestingly it seems as though the steel mills didn't sustain much damage ... smokestacks still blowing Safety First!

Behind Vale’s Deadly Dam Collapse: Multiple Warnings That Went UnheededFor months, signs of danger raised worries among inspectors about the safety of a giant mine-dam perched over a town in Brazil. And yet the safety firm, worried about losing business, blessed the structure. Prosecutors are now looking into collusion between Vale and the contract inspector. Please note that in 2016 a bigger tragedy happened and is still not solved. The victms of both Brumadinho and Mariana have no perspective of having their lives back due to the lack of responsibility from the company to the people. DARNIT WSJ! Who the heck uses the term 'scores' today. Is this the lazy journalists way of circumventing the job and uses a term to obscure the fact that the number of people killed is an unknown integer? Not to mention other dams are being “investigated” and the citizens around them are afraid and have no where else to go.
