Lucas Oil Stadium is ready to make a splashy swimming debut. Organizers and sponsors spent Wednesday morning showing off the two, newly converted 1 million-gallon swimming pools that will be used for next week’s U.S. Olympic Trials. It’s the first time a major swimming competition will be held in an American football stadium.

On Wednesday, organizers and sponsors showed off the transformation of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts ’ home stadium into the world’s largest swimming venue with two 1 million-gallon pools for next week’s U.S. Olympic Trials.

“What you’re going to see if you get to walk around and go behind that curtain is the largest warmup pool ever built for any competition anywhere in the world, 10 50-meter lanes and seven 25-meter lanes,” USA Swimming president and CEO Tim Hinchey III said. “This seating across from me is dedicated solely for our coaches and our athletes.

And they’ll see just how much has changed since Indy also hosted the Olympic Trials the last time Paris last hosted the Olympics, in 1924.
