Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin announced his run for Illinois governor Monday with State Rep. Avery Bourne as his running mate.

AURORA, Ill. -- Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin announced Monday he is jumping into the GOP Illinois primary for governor., State Rep. Avery Bourne is his running mate. She was the youngest legislator to be sworn in to the Illinois General Assembly when she took the oath of office in 2015.In December, sources said the state's richest man, billionaire Ken Griffin, wanted to offer financial support to Irvin to run against Gov. JB Pritzker.

"I am honored and flattered that people are considering me in that light, but right now I'm doing the work for the city of Aurora," he said at a December 16 event.According to multiple sources, Griffin picked Irvin, a moderate in his second term as mayor of the state's second largest city. Griffin also wanted downstate conservative Republican state representative Avery Bourne to be Irvin's running mate, the sources said. She did not return calls seeking comment.

Griffin spent more than $50 million of his own money to defeat Pritzker's progressive income tax referendum, and pledged earlier this year to do whatever it takes to defeat the governor in the next election.

Irvin has an impressive resume, according to his official city bio. He's an Army veteran who served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He is also a former prosecutor and educator.

Chicago police sergeant who bungled homicide case involving Mayor Daley's nephew promotedA Chicago police sergeant who supervised the botched investigation into the death of David Koschman - who was punched to death in 2004 by then-Mayor Richard M. Daley's nephew Richard J. 'R.J.' Vanecko - has been promoted to lieutenant. Kind of messed up the way media still abuses police officers. A botched job doesn't mean it was intentional. Your logic is once a failure always a failure? Damn I'd hate to be your kids. So a police sergeant, who took a suspension for a case nearly 20 years ago is supposed to what? Never try to advance himself? Never take a promotional exam? Who are you people? Congratulations

LA sees 12% spike in homicides: 'Los Angeles is not alone in this trend,' Mayor Garcetti saysLos Angeles saw spikes in select categories of crime in 2021, most notably a nearly 12% year-over-year climb in homicides. Uh… it doesn’t matter if we’re not alone in the trend. It’s still happening. “Oh it’s happening everywhere so it doesn’t matter and we’re not going to change anything” He's right. All the other democrat ran cities had increases in homicides as well. He’s right, it’s all blue cities.
