A few Aurora businesses are taking matters into their own hands regarding proof of vaccination for COVID-19 despite the city not requiring it.

The move comes as one in five Kane County residents being tested for COVID-19 are found to have the virus andAurora city spokesman Clayton Muhammad said a COVID-19 vaccination mandate for certain businesses such as restaurants and bars has not been proposed for discussion or a vote by the City Council.

After Stolp Island Social closed for more than 21 months due to the pandemic, owner Amy Morton said she’s all for minimizing any further closures and sees requiring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test as just one additional layer to help the business stay open.
