An argument for Slow Streets ahead of a crucial upcoming San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency meeting.

Bicyclists enjoy wide-open space on the 900 block of Valencia Street, which was closed to vehicle traffic in 2020 for the city's Slow Streets program.Every weekend along Marina Green, I see tourists walking or riding rental bicycles as they head to cross the. Recently, however, I've seen more of them riding in the Presidio, on Slow Lake Street, on JFK Promenade and out along the Great Highway on car-free weekends.

A new People’s Slow Streets plan, endorsed by dozens of organizations, calls for the city to begin building that network. Theaims to connect every neighborhood in the city via safe, intuitive and enjoyable slow streets by 2024.
