Hundreds of pro-Palestine supporters attended Cleveland City Council's Monday meeting to criticize Bibb, and council members, including President Blaine Griffin.

A crowd of some 200 Palestine supporters took to City Council chambers Monday night to criticize Mayor Justin Bibb and Council President Blaine Griffin's comments on the Middle East conflict.CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland City Council chambers were packed on Monday by pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called on Mayor Justin Bibb and City Council to support Palestinians and walk back pro-Israel statements made in the wake of Hamas’ sneak attack on Israel Oct. 7.

“Hiding under blatant ignorance makes you look like a follower, and last I checked, you were elected to be a leader,” Husein said, later adding “by supporting Zionism and genocide, you are inherently also supporting white supremacy.” More than a dozen officers had been stationed inside council chambers in anticipation of the demonstration, and several more were posted throughout City Hall for the duration of the meeting.

Griffin, in a tweet, had said: “I am praying for Israel, for those who have lost their lives and those who have been taken hostage, and four our Jewish brothers and sisters around the world.” A few days later, Griffin also called for “peace in the Middle East” and tweeted, “No matter where you stand on the Middle Eastern Conflict, No Average Citizens should be harmed. I pray that the civilians in Israel and Palestine are not harmed during this conflict.
