Netflix filming ‘White Noise' at Baldwin Wallace University's Thomas Family Center for Science Innovation, August 5, 2021, starring actor Adam Driver.CLEVELAND, Ohio – City Council is poised to approve $250,000 for the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, which is preparing for a busy 2024 after convincing state lawmakers to juice Ohio’s film industry with millions more in tax credits.
One example of the impact: White Noise, a 2022 Netflix film starring Adam Driver, that was filmed in Northeast Ohio over the course of 10 months. That film alone generated $100 million in economic activity, including 36,000 nights at local hotels, said the commission’s chief operating officer, Seema Jayaswal.
Historically, about 60 to 70% of the tax credit was funneled to projects in Northeast Ohio, meaning the state subsidy benefits this region more than any other. As it stands now, the commission is “already up against it” in terms of its in-house ability to coordinate and orchestrate film productions in Greater Cleveland, said Perry. With more business hopefully pouring in during future years, Perry hinted that the commission wouldn’t mind additional taxpayer money to bolster its operations.
