unleashed a barrage of actions against Huawei, a Chinese telecoms giant which it believes spies for the Chinese government and threatens Western interests because of its dominant role intechnologies. Since May, American firms have mostly been banned from supplying Huawei. The Justice Department wants Canada to extradite a top executive who is accused of sanctions-busting. Uncle Sam’s diplomats have urged other countries to stop using Huawei gear.
Instead of Huawei’s demise, the tech world faces a split, with an increasingly self-sufficient Chinese industry active everywhere but America. America and its allies could lag behind in, because Chinese firms offer cutting-edge technology at the lowest cost. Replacing existing Huawei gear would be expensive. Competition would suffer. And if Huawei develops rivals to the likes of Android it would weaken Western tech firms.
Telecoms intellectual-property portfolios have been sold before. Microsoft bought parts of Nokia in 2014, for example. In this case the buyer would face no competition from Huawei in America, where the Chinese firm does not operate . In other countries the two would go head to head, though it would take the new competitor years to ramp up manufacturing.

As long as he is in office we will be under a security threatened environment.
Get your FB right before you do anything to Huawei
But they are using their technology in their defence helicopters 😂
Is there any evidence like in this case?
Sad seeing this magazine turning into shit.
Nice propaganda
Change your name it's misleading!
I have not seen one piece of evidence supporting the claim that Huawei is spying on the US or is otherwise unsafe. This is protecting Apple, which uses and purchases almost everything from China, and other cellphone manufacturers which are all made and owned overseas.
Boycott Huawei UK security is at RISK. Don’t leave your self open. blackhacking greyhacking malware
It's time to stop getting mad at a company that just releases technology
When did the Red Communist Chinese purchase The Economist to function as a propaganda outlet for its global enslavement ambitions? This 'report' is a joke.
American Empire economic hegemony under the pretense of National Security.
They do love to have the keys to all the back doors. Shame the world's moved on
You have to ask the NSA ... little clue ...
these phone conversations are sometimes very private and sometimes strategic ...

I bet there would be many bidders for Huawei 5G.
Trump is a fanatically American citizen
. don't dismiss . do wonder if it's worth anything in particular beyond it's capacity for espionage? based mostly on stolen IP i am told . with back doors added for Chinese 5th Army .

How to define 'not worked'? What's the standard? If you consider demanding Huawei to bankrupt and capitulate immediately. You better send troops at the headquarters of Huawei.
Well I think technology itself is innocent and the excellence and market-determined dominance of a technology is not a reason to debase it with invalid excuses. Great technology should be fairly treated and if possible, cherished.
Stick to the old approach: the market is unbeatable.
The fact that Huawei wants to make a peace offering is in itself a defeat.
F China a rogue mafia state
Americans never quit. No matter how stupid & pointless the goal. We’re not quitters!
I think it's time for a new American president. lol🤣
The new approach should not be fight but cooperation.
Hasn’t this always reeked more of protectionism than real cyber risk or espionage?
When does Economist become fake news?
Many Democrats have ties to companies that has ties to the Chinese military.
New markets.
US needs to live up to its own free market “beliefs”. Try free trade agreement and stop tariffs wars.
Huawei is a strong company and it will exist. Even if not in the United States
has not worked? b/c the US has not done anything substantial yet. Huawei will be dead in the water just a simple executive order! takes about a day.
it works.HUAWEI the first time issues their PPN of 30 billion RMB.
America can’t do it alone. We kneed Europe’s help. Are we going to get it?
It does not deserve consideration.
No one can stoping the true lion wake up. Growth in adversity will only grow stronger
This approach doesn't address any concerns that kept it out.. New approach doesn't mean it's useful..
It took this corporation over ten years to complete what members of our family do by the hour. By. The. Hour. I shed so much I can’t even count how much I shed. Huawei keeps saying they’ve “attained traction” and everyone in HOUR family knows it’s horses***. We’re all HOURLY.
Would expect nothing less from the Globalists at the Economist; useful idiots.
The only thing outlandish is the premise of this article.
lol ban them because your sorry ass can't compete
Hope you are having a good time in Shenzhen. Keep trying!
There is no way that would happen.
