,” which resulted in outrage from many fans over several scenes being too dark to see. “Thrones” ignited similar backlash during its final season, especially for the dimly-lit battle episode “The Long Night.” Both that episode and Episode 7 of “House of the Dragon” were directed by Emmy winner Miguel Sapochnik.over “House of the Dragon” being too dark to see, one of HBO’s social media accounts went public defending the dark moments in the episode as “an intentional creative decision.
“We appreciate you reaching out about a night scene in ‘House of the Dragon’ Episode 7 appearing dark on your screen,” the HBO Max Help account replied to one fan who wrote the network needs “to issue a written apology for literally a whole episode of black screen.”Many fans claimed the episode was “unwatchable” because the screen was simply too dark.
Sapochnik is no stranger to this kind of backlash given the outrage he faced over the dark scenes in “The Long Night.” Heat the time and defended the creative choice, saying the darkly-lit cinematography was what the show’s atmosphere needed. “It made sense that this was the last hope humanity has, the last beacon of light, and from the perspective of where we needed the story to go — which was to reach a surreal, chaotic climax — we needed an environment that was friendly to that,” Sapochnik said. “So all the reasons for doing it were there, and nobody sat there and wondered if it was gonna be too dark.”Hi Stephen! We appreciate you reaching out about a night scene in House of the Dragon: Episode 7 appearing dark on your screen.
Would have been nice if I could have SEEN wtf was going on last episode. It was way too dark. So annoying GameOfThrones HBO
Turn on the AudioDescription and this is no longer an issue!
It was bad during GOT too
it is wild that this narrative still exists. looked awesome on my tv. no issues whatsoever. same with The Long Night. when things are dark/at night, don't watch in a bright room. something that i have been conscious of for years and years. nothing new!
The real clownery here is that people are still watching a Game of Thrones-related tv show. Why? 🤡
Stop watching it pirated or watching it with every single light on or middle of the day, then you’ll be able to see 😩
Was fine on my TV 🤷♂️
Listening wouldn’t have helped much as everybody whispered all episode and I had to triple the volume of my TV. Dragon roar nearly killed me.
Looked good in Dolby
Such babies lol it was bad for like 10m total. The rest of the episode was very very good
whats so creative when u cant see anything be serious
It really wasn’t that bad
Intentional..? how arrroganttt
hbomax I will make a intentional creative decision to stop watching if I can't see what's going on.
Ahahahaha!
Image was fine on my TV.
Game of Thrones used to be like that too.
The mumbling dialog in the first third of the episode was a bigger issue then the manipulated day for night shots
Welp, disregard the viewers opinions. That’s one way to kill to show. 🤷♀️
So, the directors didn’t learn from the last too dark scene form it’s predecessor? It garnered a lot of outrage. Viewers don’t like that ish! 🤷♀️
I had to turn off every light in the house and close all the blinds to even tell there was anything on screen, even then, it was indecipherable
It's the best show of the Year. The episode was brilliant.
This was not a creative decision, it was an issue with how TVs display the stream. And not something fixed with a brightness/contrast adjustment, unfortunately. Proof -- 'correct' display on laptop unwatchable display on my TV via Roku HBO Max app:
Are they hiding crappy CGI in the dark again?
I literally saw it like this on my old TV.
RdotSpoon what you been sayin
It was dim but we could see it. Just change the settings on your TV.
Modern CGI is so amazing! It can make a dragon look like a blobby thing next to another blobby thing, on top of shapey-bloops.
Wasn’t that dark
The Long Night is one of the best radio productions I have ever listened to.
ScottRollison
Looked great on my LG C1. Dark scenes were perfectly balanced.
'Adjust your TV settings' is such a 1982 response. If your show can't be viewed in a normally lit living room, it should not be released outside of theaters, period.
I was happy the Daemon and Rhaenyra sex scene was too dark and gladly fast-forwarded past that because that was not what I wanted to see. HouseoftheDragon HouseOfTheDragonHBO HOTD
Just make it a podcast
For me it was the terrible frame rate that HBO Max on Xbox is giving me
🚨 rgay this is your beat!
There was an episode in the final season of GOT with the same issue.
Cutwillrises By far the best episode yet.
Intentionally bad.
They’re saying it’s an intentional creative decision? Sorry but it’s just stupid, a classic example of the bad decisions made in movie making lately.
