House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., speaks during a news conference outside the U.S. Capitol about lawsuit he and other Republican leaders filed against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and congressional officials in an effort to block the House of Representatives from using a proxy voting system to allow for remote voting during the coronavirus pandemic.House Minority Leader Rep. that a colleague would vote on their behalf. All are Democrats and the issue has become a partisan flashpoint about whether the House should reopen for business as usual as states around the country are taking steps to get people back to work. The change was spurred along by the worsening pandemic, which forced the House to extend its recess in theon Capitol Hill and as public health risks were assessed. The chamber has only held a handful of votes related to coronavirus legislation in the last two months.
However, Republicans have argued proxy voting bucks the chamber's 231-year institutional history and sets a dangerous precedent. Late Tuesday,"That is why I stand with the members behind me and the constituents across this country in upholding the Constitution, exactly what we swore we would do," said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., while flanked by Reps.
The House was slated to consider more than a half dozen bills Wednesday and Thursday, including a measure on reforming a popular small business loan program during the pandemic.
Watch Brian Simms' video from PA State House. Republicans lobbied to open the state, saying this was a hoax WHILE testing positive for corona virus AND putting legislators and their family at risk!!!!
Negapublicans
They should vote in person. Jeez.
RepWesterman hahahahaha you might have been in Arkansas for the photo
I'm getting truly tired of politics and politicians. Stop wasting our time and our money.
It’s plain and simple here. They’re not leaders and should be disgracefully relieved of their duties as American representatives, regardless of whether they’re democrat or republican. If they’re unable to lead by example, we don’t need them as our so called leaders. Period.
Should be stopped
They should be ashamed of themselves. Nobody elected them to give their vote to somebody else. If the workers at Kroger and Costco can go to work taking precautions, these people damn well can as well.
Will R’s wear masks, out of care for their colleagues, if they return to DC?
Change is hard on many of these senior citizens. If they prefer to stay in the past, they might want to step aside for more mentally flexible representatives
So you do not have to be alive to vote, those dems seem to have that going.
We should sue them back for suppression of voter's rights.
Republicans hate people being able to vote so much they're even against themselves being able to vote.
Literally screams fraud
Because its just pathetic. Get to DC and work...stupid freeloaders.
What has happened to the GOP? Money, greed, laziness, all of the above? VoteByMail votebluein November timeforthemto go
Wonder why
Why are Republicans dead set, on remaining in the past? It's 2020, not 1655, the fact that anyone thinks a representatives vote needs to be in person, is horrifying.
Irrespective of who's 'right,' it says something about the state of American politics when the parties are arguing over how they should cast votes in Congress. coronavirus
Sooooo what's the check? Verify votes? Don't tell me you think we can trust no hacking?!!! No
They are running scared. The GOP shouldn’t have put all their eggs in the tRump basket. He will be their downfall.
Every vote matters
At least Republicans know to be afraid when voting is made easier. Their reliance on suppression is becoming more and more apparent each day as we watch them squirm.
