House Democrats pushing back on DOJ offer for limited Mueller testimony

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are pushing back on terms offered by Justice Department officials for special counsel Robert Mueller's testimony, objecting to a proposal for him to give a public opening statement before answering questions behind closed doors, according to multiple sources familiar with the negotiations.

While House Democrats aren't ruling out having closed-door testimony for portions of the report, they want to have Mueller answer at least some questions in a public setting. Attorney General William Barr has said he has no objections to Mueller testifying, even though President Donald Trump has said publicly in a tweet that"Bob Mueller should not testify."

The Justice Department has also not complied with the committee's subpoena for the unredacted version of the Mueller report and underlying evidence. The White House has asserted executive privilege over the full report, which has raised new questions about Mueller's testimony and prompted Democrats to prepare to hold Attorney General Bill Barr in contempt of Congress.

Mueller is the one who has caused this uproar with his report. He had two years and unlimited resources to complete this investigation. He should testify as to why he didn't 'finish' it before giving the report.

Mueller is hesitant to testify before Congress because he doesn't want to be seen as political? Surely, he realizes that his report's focus was Russia interfering with our elections and trump's surrogates encouraging Russia. What's more political than that? He was overpaid!

TheView For an attorney who was so concerned that the public was being defrauded and mislead by Barr’s summary of his work, Mueller sure sends mixed signals now. He should welcome the opportunity to speak directly to the public, without anyone editing his words.

House Dems should wait until Mueller officially leaves the Justice Dept to subpoena him as a civilian. Barr will only allow Mueller to speak following Trump's instructions!

If he is a true PATRIOT, he should ditch DOJ,and tell the American people what are his REAL findings!

Issue him a subpoena. If he doesn't show up, lock him up.
