Just how much — or how little — Musk pays in taxes has gotten a lot of attention lately, and even prompted his Twitter poll last weekend that preceded his decision to sell $6.9 billion worth of Tesla stock. There have been calls in Congress for a billionaires' tax that would require at least some minimal payment from wealthy individuals like Musk who often have little in the way of taxable income. Musk has attacked that idea on Twitter.

How does tesla selling environmental credits to other companies result in taxpayer subsidy of tesla. The cash comes from other companies, not the government. The gov did provide an ev credit for buyers of any ev, not just tesla, but that is because gov wanted to push evs.

Don't forget that Tesla was made possible because public investments in education, high tech, and infrastructure were made over many decades. The taxpayer footed the bill. So Musk owes the public, and not the other way around.
