Friday morning was mostly cloudy, warm, and breezy. Much of our area was rain-free through midday. However, showers and storms were moving through west-central Alabama by that time. Rain gradually becomes more widespread Friday afternoon and evening. It may be heavy at times. Showers and storms continue Friday night, then depart early Saturday morning.
Some storms may become strong to severe Friday afternoon through Friday night. The Storm Prediction Center places southern Alabama within a slight severe risk. That includes all of our area. Damaging wind gusts and brief tornadoes are the primary hazards. Storms also produce heavy rain, with area rain potential of 2 to 4 inches. That may lead to localized flooding. A flood watch includes all of our area Friday afternoon into Saturday.
Saturday trends drier as a cold front pushes through our area. Clouds linger with high temperatures in the low to mid 70s. Temperatures turn cooler behind the front, with lows in the 40s Saturday night. Afternoon temperatures remain in the 60s Sunday with a partly cloudy sky. Lows fall into the 40s again Sunday night. Temperatures gradually warm next week with a mix of sun and clouds Monday through Wednesday. Rain looks likely late next week.
