The inclusion of Turkey in the FATF grey list fuels concern that the international watchdog is being used for political means

The inclusion of Turkey in the so-called list of grey countries that need increased monitoring once again raises eyebrows over the watchdog’s conduct.

, the FATF said Turkey needs to enhance the oversight of its anti-money laundering laws and prosecute UN-designated terror groups. Ankara said its inclusion in the grey list was “unfair” but insisted that it will work closely with the organisation to address its concerns in a bid to come out of  the “

unwarranted list within the shortest time.”FATF’s decision matters as it increases the risk profile of a country under monitoring, making it costly for the government and private sector to raise funds from international capital markets.Being on the grey list also means that domestic and multinational banks have to spend more resources on compliance and money laundering staff, who have to be extra vigilant in detecting fraud and terror financing transactions.

When geopolitics comes into playIn 2018, when cash-strapped Pakistan was struggling to avoid being included in the grey list, Turkey was the only country that supported it. Turkey’s ties with its traditional western allies including the US have strained in recent years. headtopics.com

Washington barred the sale of F-35 jets to Turkey after Ankara decided to install the Russian surface-to-air S-400 missile system.Turkey’s efforts to enforce its maritime rights in the Mediterranean Sea has angered Greece, a EU member state. Turkey is also on the opposite side of some of its western allies in Syria and Libya. Despite spending billions of dollars on its own to host around 4 million Syrian refugees, Turkey is regularly targeted by European leaders for not doing enough to protect human rights.

The EU's interference in Turkey’s internal affairs is nothing unusual. Earlier this week, ambassadors of ten countries, including the US and Germany, issued a joint statement, calling for the release of Osman Kavala, a Turkish businessman facing terrorism charges.

“Looking at the way the geopolitical system is working these days, I wouldn’t be surprised if Turkey continues to remain on the grey list for quite a period of time,” said Shad. FATF’s decision on Pakistan has highlighted how powerful countries are influencing the global money-laundering monitor.

“I was an ardent believer in global institutions. I was the biggest critic of Pakistan, saying how the country was late in addressing deficiencies in its system,” said Shad. “But over the years I realised every time Pakistan was close to meeting the requirements to get out of the FATF list, they would add another condition.”  headtopics.com

In June, FATF said it will keep Pakistan on the grey list even though Islamabad had complied with 26 of the 27 demands that were set out in an action plan such as making it harder for criminals to move illicit funds. Then just a few weeks later India’s foreign minister S Jaishankar publicly

that New Delhi used its influence at FATF to keep Pakistan in the grey list. “FATF has become deeply politicised,” said Shad.  Read more: TRT World »

But do we do NOT know this for a fact? Man who cares about this FATF. They can go and make their own lists. Nobody should care. All I smell is agendas, politics and stuff. It’s time to form a new bloc of Non Arab Muslim Countries like EU with common currency, under one Parliament with a Presidency and Military Alliance like NATO & form an alliance with Russia & China. I really hope Arabs don't side with the west when Turkey decides to restore the Khilafat and reclaim their lost lands after 2023. You talk about democracy, liberalism, LGBT, Equality of men and women the west will make u as one of their own. But the moment u start talking about political Islam, Khilafat, muslimbloc u will be their biggest antagonist and u will become a threat to world peace. Turkey

I am an Indian, I am very happy that Turkey has included in FATF grey list along with Pakistan. trt media is very biased media. Shame on Turkey and Pakistan for funding terr0rists around the world. Turkey is being penalised for helping Pakistan to get out of grey list. FATF is merely a political pressure group.

FATF is there to blackmail Muslim countries... EU will suffer the consiquences & turkey will lose almost nothing. It is basically because 2023 is coming near. But EU will suffer a historical damage if they try to make any misadventure against turkey.Because this time Sons of Osman ghazi & Timurlane will be on same page 🇵🇰🇹🇷

Supporting Pakistan can have these possible side effects... The whole fatf system is corrupt.... Yes. This should also be an example for the non-weatern countries to have their own world bank system that par with the west and their monopolistic society. FAFT is now a tool of the West to pressurize the countries that don't toe their line. Good and gutsy decision by President Erdogan to throw out 10 western Diplomats.

it just a politically corruption Next Afghanistan = bcz Muslims country Its a reality that Western Imperialist are bullying the Countries like Turkey and Pakistan for their petty interests.

Frustrated communists bias TRT media 🤣🤣 Because of Erdogan, normal Turkish people will suffering from it. For West, IF YOU ARE MUSLIM COUNTRY THEN BE WITH US OR WE WILL SANCTION YOU. Unity of the Muslim is the only way to beat this monopoly. They will slaughter each and every Muslim country one by one.

Don't worry. They'll come for each and every Muslim country one by one. One sitting besides them will be the next ones. We will beat the world Inshallah and These people will beg to us But Its hard time we need Patience and Motivation 🇵🇰 ♥️🇹🇷 It's politics nothing else. paykhar It sure is
