If you were to invent an artist to keep the flame burning for classic rock in a musical mainstream increasingly unfriendly to the genre's traditions, they'd probably look and sound a lot like Harry Styles.
There are few indications to this point, though, that many are interested in doing so with Styles. While"Watermelon Sugar" continues to climb at pop radio, only one station monitored byfor our Alternative Songs airplay chart has attempted to play it: Alt 92.3 in New York, which gave it a paltry two spins in the prior tracking week.
It's also worth noting that pop radio has also been slow to embrace Harry Styles -- even going back to the One Direction days, where despite the group's massive popularity, they only ever notched two top 5 hits on Mainstream Top 40 . By choosing"Adore You" as an advance single from-- following the more reintroductory first taste"Lights Up" -- Styles' team made their priorities clear.

Perhaps radio stations are thinking that we are in the middle of a pandemic and struggling artists need more success to keep food on their table, knowing that celebrities will be able to stay holed up in their padded mansions for a bit longer.
I would say more soft rock, or alternative rock, but Kiwi could be played on Rock for sure. Also it’s just so difficult with our generation of music today cause there literally is no category for it. Like what even is pop music? It literally means popular music.

I just went through his latest album Fine Line. Not commenting on whether I like it or not, however, that music is NOT rock music. Soft rock maybe, but I’d probably put it in the pop category before anything else. He’s a “rock star” in the same way anyone in hip hop or pop is.

because he isnt really a rock artist. He is doing indie pop, totally different from actual rock genre. He's still awesome, tho. No need for rock radios support at all
