A Harrisburg man has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for what police call a “12-day crime spree” that targeted McDonald’s and Sheetz locations across Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and South Caroline, according to a U.S. Attorney press release. The verdict comes after an investigation by the FBI, PSP, and East Pennsboro Twp. Police Department.
Morales was convicted on multiple robbery charges targeting businesses engaged in interstate commerce in March 2022, referred to as Hobbs Act robbery. Court reports state that Morales brandished a firearm at employees during these robberies, threatened with force, and took money by means of violence.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Morales threatened a Sheetz employee on March 10, 2022, using a black .9mm handgun and instructed them to empty the cash registers. Morales was ordered by U.S. District Judge Christopher Conner to pay $5,094 in restitution to McDonald’s, Sheetz, and United Bank. Morales will also serve five years of probation following his 230 month prison sentence.
