A 35-year-old man Houston police arrested in February is dead after he was found unresponsive Tuesday morning at a Louisiana correctional center he was recently transferred to, according to authorities.
The man — Billie Davis — had been found unresponsive around 10:02 a.m. in an administrative cell, where he’d been brought “after exhibiting disruptive behavior” around 9:25 a.m., per a community message from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.HCSO: Harris County Jail inmate dies after being 'found unresponsive from apparent self-inflicted injuries'
Medical staff started “lifesaving efforts” immediately, and Davis was transported to a medical center, per the sheriff’s office. But around 10:47 a.m., Davis was ultimately pronounced dead at the medical center. Davis — who the sheriff’s office referred to as a Harris County Jail inmate — had been booked into the Harris County Jail after Houston police arrested him Feb. 11 “on a felony warrant for evading arrest and detention in a motor vehicle,” per the sheriff’s office.On HoustonChronicle.com:The LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating his death, and LaSalle Parish Medical Examiner and Coroner will be conducting his autopsy, per the message.
“The Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division is also investigating to determine whether all applicable policies and procedures were followed, which is standard following the death of an inmate,” the message read. “In addition, the death has been reported to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.”
