Each district is supposed to have a School Safety and Security Committee that drafts...

FILE - In this Jan. 22, 2013, file photo, a student helps block the classroom door with furniture during a mock lockdown drill at Moody High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. The actions of students who died tackling gunmen at two separate U.S. campuses a week apart have been hailed as heroic. A majority of school districts have now embraced such an approach, with experts saying educators need to give staff and students as many options as possible in the worst-case scenario.

School safety initiatives are overseen by the Texas School Safety Center at Texas State University, and Abbott ordered the director of the center to contact every Texas school district and ensure its compliance. “Among other reviews, your team should begin conducting in-person, unannounced, random intruder detection audits on school districts,” Abbott wrote in a letter to the director of the school safety center. “Staff should approach campuses to find weak points and how quickly they can penetrate buildings without being stopped. This will help determine if schools are prepared to implement and follow the they have already submitted to the state.

What a useless blast of security theater. Spend money on his pals, and not do a damned thing to keep kids safe.

What should happen is: every representative, senator and the governor of texas need to get on school buses (in the tx heat) and visit every school in texas before they spew their opinions.

A do nothing gesture to try and get the voter support he lost. Sorry babyboy Greg it won't work.

Unless there is security at every front, back and side gate n fence, GovAbbott GregAbbott_TX plans r meaningless especially his mental health one. R they suppose to ask the shooter if he r she is mentally ill B4 shooting back? Special session for Nothing!

Once again, Abbott puts everything back on schools and teachers. Are you going to tie funding to this as well? Penalize schools that aren’t safe enough It wouldn’t surprise me. Do your job instead of creating false solutions.

I can tell you they can get pretty far because schools are underfunded and every staff person has multiple jobs. Even if someone is sitting at a desk near the door all day, they are fielding the work of two or more people which sets up distraction.

It’s amazing! They are finally doing safety checks. In the summer. When no kids are there. And doors will be locked for the safety of administration.

It’s was the guns last time, it was the guns this time and unfortunately it will be the guns next time. It’s the guns! It’s still the guns!

What we really need is stricter gun control laws, 28 day waiting period, and universal background checks to reduce the chances of mentally unfit people being able to purchase assault type weapons!

Typical response from politicians like Abbott to try and divert the blame to others instead of accepting responsibility for his part in the Uvalde school shooting. 😡😡😡😡😡

😡😡😡😡😡

Governor Abbott continues his war on public education by randomly sending his gestapo to harass poorly paid school teachers for not doing a good job at law enforcement — a job that multiple LE agencies didn’t even try to do in Uvalde.

Are they going to bring guns and ask everyone to hide under a desk? We’ll do anything and spend any amount of money on non solutions and do nothing and spend nothing on real solutions. Typical Texas.

What kind of keystone cop bullshit is this? Who's going to stop the 18 year old student that strolls in with the AR he bought for his birthday. Abbot is a full in clown. Wasted millions on that stupid border stunt now this.

clarencehilljr Hahahahaha! Anything, apparently, to keep from limiting access to firearms.

This is a bad idea. Instead of addressing the actual problem. The state is adding more stress to school administrators. Good grief. Everything about this massacre and it’s aftermath has been wrong from the start.

Well, the pool is in separate building and unlocked to allow staff and swimmers into class. I guess you’ll have to move to a swipe a pass to get in.

How about we get the guns out of the hands of psychos?

Just victim blaming. Again.

That's actually a great idea.

Good grief

Typical republican response , by not awesome the real issues😡👺😡👺

Great plan.

GregAbbott_TX So there can be ANOTHER layer of lies... GregAbbott_TX I’m sorry people but I wish Fox viewers could see the damage Fox is doing to our country. Gov. Greg Abbott asks for legislative recommendations in response to Uvalde shootingNew: In response to the Uvalde school shooting, Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday called on the Texas Legislature to form special committees to make legislative recommendations on firearm safety, school safety, mental health, social media and police training. The special committees are different from a special legislative session, which Texas Democrats — and at least a couple Republicans — have asked for after the shooting. Gov. Greg Abbott has not ruled that out. Recommendation: impeach Abbott, Dan Patrick, and Ken Paxton for failing Texas. Why doesn’t he listen to all of the people in this state and address the issue of too baby guns!? Skip the legislative committee for GOD’S sake! Open your damn eyes!
