The new tools, which are still in development, promise a big step up from what’s currently available in Google Photos. Even without the upgrade, users can already create themed movies from stored videos and photos using the “Create new Movie” function, but the tools available are far more limited, lacking essential editing functions beyond simply trimming and reordering your clips.Google blog post
by Google’s Director of ChromeOS Software, Alexander Kuscher, reveals that these new video features will launch first on Chromebooks this fall. Unfortunately, there’s no word as yet on when similar tools might come to Android, iOS or the Web, but we can assume that where there’s a ‘first,’ there should also be a second. I don’t think it would make sense for such a huge upgrade to remain a Chromebook exclusive for long.
With video becoming increasingly important across most forms of social media, Google’s new movie creation tools will become an important addition, not just for preserving and sharing memories but for creating content suitable for posting in formats such as Instagram’s Reels.
