George Floyd's girlfriend has called for calm in Minneapolis, saying he would be"devastated" if he saw the city burning after the third night of protests in the city escalated into looting and violence.
"He loved the city. He came here [from Houston] and stayed here for the people and the opportunities… Floyd was a gentle giant. He was about love and about peace," she added.Her message comes after Minneapolis saw another night of unrest as protesters set fire to a Minneapolis police precinct on Thursday near to where George Floyd was violently detained by officers.
On Monday, video footage of a white police officer kneeling on Floyd's neck for around eight minutes while Floyd pleaded,"I can't breathe. Don't kill me," circulated rapidly on social media. Floyd was confirmed dead shortly afterward and the four officers involved in the incident were fired.
That poor man,Georgia Floyd, is 'lost' in all the savagery. The challenge now if strength from Authority to restore safety and protect people and property...THAT takes a heuristic Minneapolis leaders have yet to see and learn from.
