Residents of the Wildwind subdivision in Garden Ridge , Texas, alongside city officials, are expressing growing apprehension over the expansion of quarries in their area.
The issue, which has been escalating for years, has reached a critical point with the establishment of a new quarry uncomfortably close to residential properties.Concerns over noise, air pollution, and safety have intensified following the purchase of a neighboring ranch by Lion Cave Materials, the company behind the new quarry.
Councilwoman Lisa Swint of Garden Ridge echoed the concerns of her constituents, emphasizing the need for change. Swint discussed efforts to address the situation with Lion Cave Materials, particularly regarding noise and dust mitigation measures such as berms. However, doubts persist regarding the effectiveness of these measures.
However, Swint believes that the ultimate solution lies beyond city jurisdiction. She stressed the importance of working with legislators to enact legislation that better protects the interests of residents, advocating for measures like increased buffer zones around quarries.
