The big, bright bunnies and butterflies in 'Huntopia' are attracting national attention.

Artist Hunt Slonem promised in an interview last week that San Antonio Botanical Garden visitors who check out the new exhibit of his work there will see “an eruption of color.” The man does not lie. “ Huntopia : Bunnies, Birds & Butterflies” includes such treats as a colony of mosaic rabbits holding court amongst the cacti and other Southwestern plants near the entrance and a flight of enormous butterflies in a field of wildflowers.

Selena concert, Bach project among offerings for the San Antonio Philharmonic’s third season Slonem’s subject matter makes his work a good fit for botanical gardens. He is known for his fanciful paintings of rabbits, birds and butterflies, as well as for his portraiture. “It’s completely aligned with what I’ve been doing for the last 70 years of my life and deriving nature as a source of all my inspiration,” he said.
