Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, the queen who has been acting less and less like her old just self in Season 8 of"Game of Thrones." of “Game of Thrones” unfold. After the shocks established with the first season’s killing of Ned Stark and the Red Wedding bloodbath in Season 3, the show built a reputation for no-one-is-safe storytelling that had many fans dreading the battle of Winterfell two weeks back.
This may be an issue of time, which is strange to consider for a show that has gone this long and needed almost two years to complete filming on its final season. But when adapting the novels by George R.R. Martin, the show held a mostly steady hand while both sprawling from and condensing its source material.
A smart and compassionate character corrupted by power is ripe territory , but less so when it seems to manifest in the span of an episode, especially in the service of elevating the chances for an honorable but less compelling character in Jon Snow. Just as sudden was last Sunday’s turn by Brienne, who after seasons of noble self-reliance and power that often exceeded her male counterparts, was reduced to tears with the sudden departure of her apparent love Jaime after a couple nights together.
In an example of the show struggling with how best to reckon with that history, Sansa Stark and the Hound shared a baffling scene last Sunday. Speaking to another would-be queen, he coarsely dredged up the abuse of her past without any reprisal from her, and Sansa’s troubling, casual response indicated the trauma made her into who she was.who took to social media after the episode, writing “Rape is not a tool to make a character stronger.

chrisbarton The problems in GOT’s final season that you delineate very well indicate that the soul of the series has already been lost, regardless of what happens in the remaining episodes. The Starbucks cup was the perfect encapsulation of this.
Anything newsy happen in the world today
Complete bullshit. Do some real journalism.
What is the trash be happy
Go home L.A. Times. You're drunk.
That Jamie/Brianne, horrifically murdering Missandei, Sansa and Daenerys (Mad queen) nonsense appeared to be a way for these male writers/showrunners to put the female characters 'back in their place'. I've watched GOT from the beginning, but truthfully, now I'm done. Sick of it.
Stupid newspapers trying to bank on clickbait articles about popular tv shows is so 2019
Still better than anything la times has ever done. Don’t talk shit about things you know nothing about.
Doesn't matter if you think it lost it's way. It was George RR Martins story to tell and as far as I know he told HBO exactly how it was to end. And that's how it's happening.
I don’t know how people are surprised at how this is wrapping up. From the very beginning, and throughout other seasons the show has proven it will not be railroaded into happy endings for protagonists. RedWedding NedStark RickonStark etc...
Starting out with no bigger ambition than to be a medieval soap opera was their first mistake. Dark Shadows was more innovative with it's vampire soap opera story line
Not everyone will be happy. Those not happy will make these claims.
It didn't lose its way. Shut up.
Never watched it. Never will.
This just ain't right GOT 😤
¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
See Lost.
