Freddie Mercury 's mother Jer Bulsara shared some poignant thoughts about her son's death in a candid unearthed interview given over two decades since his passing

Freddie Mercury came a long way from his humble beginnings as Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar. Born to Parsi parents Jer and Bomi Bulsara in 1946, the family fled the country in 1964 during the revolution and headed for the UK. He would adopt the stage name Freddie Mercury and became the frontman for Queen and in the process, became one of the most iconic singers the country has seen. It was with great sadness that Freddie's health declined after he was diagnosed with AIDS in 1987, before dying of bronchopneumonia, a complication brought on by AIDS, on November 24, 1991. Freddie never revealed the true nature of his illness t his family and only told his parents that he was terminally ill. Freddie's adoring mother, Jer, opened up about her son's death in an unearthed interview with The Telegraph, some 21 years after his passing. Her poignant words reveal the heartbreaking moments when she heard that Freddie had died. Jer said: "It was a very sad day when he died in November 1991, but according to our religion when it is the right time you cannot change it. You have to go. After Freddie died, his parents relocated to Nottingham so that they could be near their daughter Kashmira Cooke, along with her husband Roger and their kids. Following Mercury’s death, his grief-stricken parents moved to Nottingham to live near their daughter Kashmira Cooke her husband Roger Cooke and their children. Jer continued: "I have settled in and I am happy up here. I take great comfort today in all the things that happen around Freddie. "There are so many tribute bands and I have been about six times to see We Will Rock You." Speaking about the days surrounding Freddie's death, Jer said that she visited him when he was close to passing away. She said: "He didn’t have to say anything. I knew he was very ill." In his final weeks, Freddie decided to come off his medication as he was cared for at his West Kensington home by close friends. Boyfriend Jim Hutton, former lover and best friend Mary Austin, personal chef Joe Fanelli and PA Peter Freestone shared the responsibilities of Freddie's final days between them.
