Former Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar was one of two rock climbers found dead on Wednesday near Idyllwild, Calif., according to the Riverside County Coroner.

Escobar, 31, was identified by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department along with Chelsea Walsh, 33. The former NFL tight end became a firefighter with the Long Beach Fire Department in February after his football career came to a close. Both Escobar and Walsh were listed as residences of Huntington Beach in the coroner’s report.

He spent four seasons with the Cowboys from 2013 to 2016 before playing for the Chiefs, Ravens, Browns and Dolphins. Escobar was drafted by the Cowboys with the 47th pick in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft out of San Diego State. The former tight end had 1,646 receiving yards during his time at San Diego State to go with 17 touchdowns on 122 receptions.

Escobar recorded 30 catches during his time in the NFL, with 333 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He also played for the San Diego Fleet of the Alliance of American Football in 2019.
