GM has a long memory, and when the UAW came to labor talks looking to win back items it gave up during the financial crisis, the auto giant dug in

The United Auto Workers spent the 1980s primarily worried about job security. As Japanese car companies stole Detroit’s market share and robots invaded auto plants, union bosses anticipated less for their army of workers to do.

They convinced General Motors Co. and its rivals to form what was called a Jobs Bank that kept paying employees even if their positions were eliminated by automation or market shifts.

GM lost a huge amount of goodwill with investors and customers, they will have a hard time selling their cars now, and they will never get assistance from the American taxpayers again.

I disagree. What it does is cause companies to accelerate looking for more cost saving measures that eventually reduces the number of workers required.

🛑blaming unions! guys on Wall Street make 10X the average worker, unions have program for young ppl(🤦🏻‍♂️most can’t do heights& physical demand) I’m a carpenter/small business owner, best carpenters I’ve hired over the decades were union trained. not a union shop but pay is good😃

Can always tell when economy is going great cuz unions go on strike. Funny that.

Unions = Extortion. No different than how the Mob works.

The unions never learn! Do they really want their jobs to go overseas? This is how we lost so many car manufacturing jobs on the first place. Demanding so much that you make the company uncompetitive to others that aren't gouged by the unions!

Thank goodness those pesky workers didn't win anything.
