On Jan. 1, 2024 the sale of flavored tobacco will be prohibited in the city of Columbus . Last year, Columbus City Council voted to approve a city-wide ban on the sale of flavored and menthol tobacco products. A judge will hear arguments Friday over a new state law that blocks cities from making their own rules on flavored tobacco .
Statehouse Republicans said the bans will hurt stores because people will just go a little farther to buy what they want. That's why the cities formed an alliance. Lawmakers passed a bill to block them, but Gov. Mike DeWine sided with the cities and vetoed it.And that's where things stand now. Friday's hearing could have an impact on who will get the final say.
ABC 6 will follow this story throughout the day and update this page when new information becomes available.
