Thu, May 23rd 2024 at 5:52 PMFAIRHOPE, Ala. —The South Bend Village subdivision located on Highway 181 south of County Road 24 will have a total of 290 lots. Fairhope Public Utilities will provide water for the homes that will be built there, according to county documents.
“Since that time last year when we had to enforce our ordinance on water usage, we increased our capacity by about one million gallons,” said Fairhope City Councilman Jack Burrell. “By the middle of June, we will increase it by another million and a half gallons. We're increasing our capacity by close to 30% of what we were just this time last year."
"Last summer our capacity was 9 million gallons a day. By the middle of June, it will be about eleven and half million gallons a day. We are at ten million gallons a day now so that is an 11% increase just by this time last year,” said Burrell. "We did enact an ordinance which says that if you're contiguous to the city you need to annex to be provided water so this particular subdivision or a couple in that area are not subject to that new ordinance,” he said.
