According to Bankrate, a significant majority, approximately 66%, now hold a negative view on tipping.

, indicating that 72% of U.S. adults perceive tipping as expected in more places today than five years ago.revealed that many Americans feel tipping has gone too far, with many reporting instances of being asked to tip in unconventional settings. The survey showed 47.3% reported tipping requests at self-checkout machines 45.5% at convenience stores and 39.7% say they have been asked to tip upfront before receiving any service.

Bankrate's survey also uncovered that 41% of Americans believe businesses should increase employee wages to reduce reliance on tips. Pew Research data highlights varying tipping practices across industries, with 92% of respondents indicating they always or often tip at restaurants, 78% at hairdressers, 76% for takeout orders, 70% when purchasing drinks at a bar, and 62% when utilizing taxi services. However, workers in establishments, like coffee shops or restaurants, without servers are less likely to receive tips.

A significant challenge associated with "tipflation," is the uncertainty surrounding when and how much to tip for different services., only 34% of U.S. adults find it extremely or very easy to determine whether tipping is necessary, while 33% feel confident about the appropriate tip amount. Moreover, the same survey conducted by CouponBirds underscores the reliance of service workers on tips, including restaurant servers, hairdressers, and cab drivers. Six in ten of these workers rely on tips for over 30% of their income, with an average weekly earnings of approximately $290 from tips alone.
