NEW: Sen. Romney calls on FAA to ground Boeing 737 Max 8 flights 'until we investigate the causes of recent crashes and ensure the plane’s airworthiness.' Sen. Blumenthal also called for the aircraft to be grounded Monday night.

“My personal feeling on this is that Boeing aircraft company ought to voluntarily itself ground these aircraft because of the similarities between these two accidents,” Hall said. “It’s a brand new aircraft, and we had such a remarkable safety record in aviation, that I think this blip needs to be addressed by the manufacturer, and they need to do a detailed — a detailed look, and with these black boxes available, that’ll be done in a short term.

U.S. airlines that fly 737 Max 8 planes have not indicated any immediate plans to stop flying the jets. American Airlines said it has 24 of the 737 Max 8 aircraft and that it will “closely monitor the investigation in Ethiopia.” In a subsequent statement, the airline said it continues to have"confidence in the safe operation of all of our aircraft, including the 737 MAX 8."

Canadian airlines such as WestJet, Sunwing Airlines and Air Canada also have 737 Max 8 jets or the Max 9 version in their fleets, according to the Boeing website. Similarly, China and Indonesia joined Ethiopia in halting the use of 737 Max 8 and Max 9 jets while the investigation of Sunday's crash is underway.

All about that bottom dollar over safety.

FAA AND TRUMP ADMIN IN CONJUCTION WITH BOEING WAITING FOR OUR PLANES TO CRASH.

Today I agree fully with Mitt Romney. Wow that ... feels creepy. “And the Lion shall sit with the lamb... “

gussthelawyer It's disgusting.Nations such as China ground this plane to ensure safety while the investigation is underway. The US authorities, always in Thrall to big business and their bank accounts, decide not to.Let's wait until we're sure the plane was the problem.Risking lives for profit.

Welp...

Shouldn't Boeing have done it already? Human safety and Corporate image, both, merit the urgent move

I totally agree. It's just prudent. What are they going to wait until one crashes here?

this is the Fight Club calculus although why FAA won't follow UK Australia and China? Lobbying money from Boeing?

No need to investigate. Donald has already told us. It's to do with how complicated planes are...

This affects the economy.

If any company made and sold a product that killed 346 people 5 months apart, that company would be bankrupt the next day, people would be going to jail. Lawsuits would abound. Alas, this is America. 737MAX8 Boeing $BA EthiopianAirlinesCrash BOEING737MAX8 LionAircrash

Please book Romney on one!

I've flown in this aircraft 100s of times with a US carrier and zero problems.

They fly private jets

Da Nang Dick. Love that nickname

SenatorRomney SenBlumenthal AmericanAir SouthwestAir POTUS Come on, guys. Ground the 737 Max. Do right by the pilots and passengers

Well if these 2 called for it, it should be done!

good luck with that. Airlines would rather endanger fare paying seat fillers than lose a dime.

Nobody should have to call the FAA to ground the BOEING737MAX8 it should go without saying. When an industrial machine is involved in a not yet fully investigated incident resulting in a fatality, the machine is shut down until it's certified safe to resume operating.

That plane SUCKS!

katiecouric Grounding of this aircraft type would cripple Southwest's operations. But it's the right thing to do.

Ah, Romney makes his move. Maybe he and Vietnam Dick can run together as a ticket?

boeing is hiding the faulty mcas system

American and Southwest: “Nah”

That is the best solution

But we maintain our US planes. There is no formal maintenance program or regulations overseas.

It's all about the money not life of its citizens. America used to pretend to care for its citizens...now it don't even bother. Common sense declares that the planes be grounded UNTIL an explanation is given for the previous crashes. We don't need a OPPs when another one does.

Good decision. Now can we apply the same logic to mass gun violence?

I am calling for a complete and total shutdown...of Boeing 737 Max 8 aircrafts from operating in The United States, until we can figure out...what the hell is going on?

Maybe they can ground Air Force One while they are at it

Sen. Warren calls on FAA to ground Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft following two crashes in less than six months: 'Today, immediately, the FAA needs to get these planes out of the sky.'

Wow all the calls for immediate action but where was that action when 1st graders were slaughtered

I think It should be repurposed as trumps own personal plane for him and his trash administration

Ring ring ring ring ring, you see that? They can call all they want but no one is answering. American based airlines are top tier when it comes to safety and pilots. We have nothing to worry about.

👀 at you AmericanAir

Romney never met a private plane that he didn’t like.

Now Sen. Romney. Would that be government overreach or big government. Why ground a whole fleet when one crashes.

Good. I won’t ever fly in one.

FAA warns Southwest, union that contract dispute could pose safety concernsThe Federal Aviation Administration warned Southwest Airlines and a union representing its mechanics in a letter Friday that a contract dispute could pose safety concerns. greta Airline mechanics are well paid and do not need a union. Pilots need a union, to keep management out of the cockpit. I would lock union mechanics out onto the street. Give the mechanics one choice; go to work and do it right - or go home. Let their wives choose. FAA revoke A&P.
