WASHINGTON - The United States told international carriers on Monday that the Boeing 737 MAX 8 is airworthy as regulators scrutinize two fatal crashes of the new model of aircraft since October, but said it will mandate forthcoming “design changes” from Boeing by April.
The FAA also said Boeing “plans to update training requirements and flight crew manuals to go with the design change” to an automated protection system called the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System or MCAS. The changes also include MCAS activation and angle of attack signal enhancements.
“If the FAA identifies an issue that affects safety, the department will take immediate and appropriate action,” Chao told reporters. “I want people to be assured that we take these incidents, these accidents very seriously.” Canada’s transport minister also said he will not hesitate to act once the cause of the crash is known.
“The FAA’s ‘wait and see’ attitude risks lives as well as the safety reputation of the U.S. aviation industry,” Hudson said in a statement. The 737 line, which has flown for more than 50 years, is the world’s best-selling modern passenger aircraft and viewed as one of the industry’s most reliable.
Its airworthy but they have a problem we need to change right away!!!
This is b.s. these planes need to be grounded now
Why would you make design changes to an airworthy plane?... Tell the truth please
Airworthy because you dont want the Boeing stock price to become worse?
hmmm
If it is Boeing, then i'm not going 🤣
So what is airworthy? That a 737 Max is able to climb to 1000 feet then crash? It was “airworthy”.
Yes, please make the following design changes: Tape the 'kill everyone' switch which the pilot keep forgetting to deactivate. And also write a software to fix the software which could not fix the plane's natural affinity for gravity.
If it’s Boeing, I ain’t going.
Damn shame how 147 must perish for the word to get out, from NTSB ?
How much is the pilot of a 737MAX 8 able to override a computer system that in his/her experienced judgement is malfunctioning? Who/what is in charge of the airborne plane? The pilot? Or the software? Expect that concerned air travelers want to know.
Since it's fine .why make design changes when the plane crashed
You all complain about this plane . But the airbus 380 has had 4 planes ✈️ with engine blow up while flying ..... But hey no one is bothered and the 380 is still flying with up to 500 passengers.. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
'Airworthy' is not the adjective I want describing my commuter plane anymore than 'tasteworthy' is the adjective I want describing something you are trying to feed me out of the cookbook you just bought.
The water is fine, just need to filter out the dirt
Seems like Design Changes got them to this point.
They better remove all these damn planes from the sky, talmbout design changes.
So it's fine, just needs a design change. Thinks: I'm happy to travel on one as long as I'm not travelling.
