- Almond milk producer Califia Farms has raised $225 million from global investors including Singapore’s Temasek Holdings [TEM.UL] who are looking for the next plant-based food hit after the market debut of vegan burger maker Beyond Meat last year.
The investor rush into plant-based milk comes as cow milk consumption is falling, partly due to health and environmental reasons, leading to two of the largest dairy producers in the United States - Dean Foods and Borden Dairy Company - filing for bankruptcy protection in the past two months. “The total change in dietary habits of the U.S. consumer is what is driving the decline in dairy,” Founder and Chief Executive Officer Greg Steltenpohl told Reuters.
It plans to use the money raised from the latest funding to launch more plant-based milks and expand its line of oat products, a growing category in the plant-based market.

Yet studies come out about how they turn out to be unhealthy. Better to stick to raw organic milk with natural probiotics. Not pasteurized dairy milk. Not soy or almond or oat etc. Read various books about raw milk. Cow milk or even better is goat milk.

I hate almond milk and soy milk. They both suck and don't have the calcium my aging bones need. Calcium supplements aren't as healthy as getting it through dairy with added vitamin D to help absorption.
Still, mind you: any one person is more than entitled to drink what they please but this should not be shoved down all kids throats. We all raise our children according to our own standards. So? So climb off your soapbox and see that we all have a choice in this nation.

Plant based milks are misleading. The % of the actual plant as an ingredient is minimal. These companies use thickeners, fruit juices and other fillers as the majority of their ingredients.

I think cows are on their way to extinction due to methane emissions, and dietary issues that have shown,for example, that adults don’t need milk at all, because they are not equipped to metabolize it properly, and some are lactose intolerant.

These products have come a long way over the last 10 years. Plant based products are healthier, taste great (not all) and come with the obvious animal welfare benefits. Beyond Beef patties are excellent.

A nut or bean based drink is not milk, but all drinks have been good investments as you're basically selling water at a premium price.

paullewismoney I tried hazelnut. Makes my coffee too brown and sludgy. Oat was perfectly drinkable. Best so far is soya. Higher fat version has a vanilla taste to it which I like. Low fat version is OK but not as tasty.

cow milk works for most of us, it’s the added hormones that stop us drinking it.
If you need to use a hyphonation to qualify what kind of “milk” something is, it is not milk in the traditional human-consumption meaning. “Milk”, in regards to human consumption, means cow’s milk. That’s it. Anything else is not milk.
