“Struggling renters are now facing a health crisis and an eviction crisis.” Housing courts around the country are expected to get busy starting Monday after the federal eviction moratorium lifted over the weekend.

Housing advocates fear the end of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention moratorium could result in millions of people being evicted in the coming weeks. But most expect an uptick in filings in the coming days rather than a wave of evictions.

“Without the CDC’s moratorium, millions of people are at risk of being evicted or becoming homeless, increasing their exposure to COVID just as cases are rising across the country. The effects will fall heavily on people of color, particularly Black and Latino communities, who face greater risk of eviction and more barriers to vaccination.”

The Biden administration had hoped that historic amounts of rental assistance allocated by Congress in December and March would help avert an eviction crisis. But the distribution has been painfully slow. So far, only about $3 billion of the first tranche of $25 billion has been distributed through June by states and localities. Another $21.5 billion will go to the states.

In St. Louis, the sheriff’s office handles court-ordered evictions. Sheriff Vernon Betts said 126 evictions have been ordered and are just waiting for the moratorium to end. His office plans to enforce about 30 evictions per day starting Aug. 9. Sgt. William Brown, who leads the evictions unit for the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, said he doesn’t know how quickly evictions will ramp up after the moratorium ends. Landlords still have to go through several steps before they can evict. But he said he has no doubt that many more people will be forced out, rattling off statistics that show the steep decline in evictions since the pandemic began: nearly 4,000 in 2018 and 2019, then a steep plunge to about 1,900 in 2020.

EatWithNia The is a massive leadership failure that falls squarely on SpeakerPelosi who is currently enjoying a luxurious 6 week vacation

You can't expect the landlords to keep housing people and not be paid.

We been trying to get this renter removed. But we can't because of the restriction. The landlord has just given up on the property. The city comes by and cleans up and a week later it's start up again. We need stop thinking the renters are all innocent in all this.

NOTABENE:CDCDirector must ACT & Stop eviction. SpeakerPelosi must ACT & compensate Not ultrawealthy Corporations & Banks but more or less poor individual landlords. NOTABENE 2: After WW2 10 Million German Refugees found a home in communities & houseowners. Live Patriotism!

I’m sorry. There are a record number of jobs available. I bet the moratorium ending will suddenly fix the staffing crisis so long as no more extra bennies coming from Sam!

Top 10 Countries you should never visit ☠️

Finally. Been waiting for long enough

Wish I could have lived rent free for the past 16mos.

Being your own boss & owning rental properties isn’t in the government’s plan for us. They’re trying to force small landlords out of business with these moratoriums. The only landlords they like are the big corporations or themselves.

the republican states have not spent the money they were given for this. the BLUE states will take care of their people FK the red states if they won't get the vaccine and they won't vote for infrastructure then they don't need any GVT money

Judgement Day is Here!

The amount of scammers that came out during the pandemic was wild. Fake money orders, people moving in with no intention of paying rent with fake identities bc of the moratorium. It has been a hot mess. Rent relief is still available for those who need it.

I suggest the newly homeless go camp out on the lawns of their local white Baptist churches, because that's the denomination whose members are most likely to support the overarching policies which brought this about.

Some people are afraid to let relatives stay over for any length of time. Once you let them in there’s no getting them out. I watch a lot of Judge Judy.

Time to pay, your hand out is not coming. But Eviction time is here. Knock ! Knock! Office Management! Pay or get out.

Wow! I remember all the renters at different Properties over the last year and half . Who did not pay rent for a year or more . But they sure as Hell bought new cars, trucks ,boats Tv’s and more .

Go. To. Work.

Wow! This is horrid! CPASashaRosie didn’t you get evicted? These RetardRepubs want to take everything from us! Even our homes! Well I won’t be leaving mine I’ll tell you that. LenoraSrimmy LeStimmySephora

Struggling landlords…

Judges can deny eviction order unless landlord has sought rent relief

🦠🦠🦠

About time. There are plenty of jobs out there. Let’s get people to work. The government handouts are over.

Can’t imagine that evicting 7m households is going to win the Dems many fans in the coming election cycle.

'Housing crisis': Progressives frustrated as Biden lets federal eviction moratorium expireIt remains unclear why this issue was left until the last minute. The House left for their break on Friday with some Democrats blaming the White House. Someone explain to me how Joe Biden is allowing people to be thrown into the streets during an escalating pandemic. Try using FEMA powers...eviction part of larger on going national emergency...COVID that threaten US economic stability There’s a huge labor shortage and companies are starting unskilled workers over $15/hr. There’s no excuse for not having a job and there’s no excuse for not paying rent.

Congresswoman Cori Bush Sleeps on Capitol Steps to Protest EvictionsCongresswoman Cori Bush spent the night sleeping on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to protest the end of the COVID eviction moratorium. Good that’s exactly where the tenants that haven’t been paying rent for over a year can sleep…. Get a job! There are plenty out there! I understand the frustration but its been a year and a few months , people should have known that any government assistance was temporary.
