Triple-digit temperatures this weekend are expected to push the demand for electricity to record highs.Demand for electricity set daily and monthly records this week as temperatures across Texas soared, but fell well short of the all-time record for power consumption that the state's grid manager predicted earlier.in one day for the month of June, according to unofficial numbers released Friday by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the state's non-profit grid manager.
Record-setting temperatures, along with population growth, are helping to drive that sky-high demand.To respond to those temperatures, and higher electricity demand that often accompanies them, ERCOT has asked power generators to defer maintenance from Friday through Monday so they can be online and generating power over the weekend.
