Courtesy of Matthew Carey, Max Lowe shares the story of how his father’s death impacted his family, and how Anker came to play an increasingly central role in their lives. Thedoc premiered at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this month before screening at the Camden International Film Festival in Maine.

Among his many climbing feats, Alex summited Mt. Everest twice, and made “the first ascent of Rakekniven, a tall granite spire jutting above the vast ice of Queen Maud Land,” according tomagazine. Two days before his death, according to Alpinist.

Anker, guilt-ridden over surviving the avalanche and vowing to play a positive role in the lives of Alex’s boys, became close to the Lowe family.
