The video was shot just before the Starship’s fourth test flight earlier this month, though there’s a segment at the end that was recorded following the successful test. More remarkably, SpaceX plans to “catch” the Super Heavy booster using the launch tower’s giant mechanical arms that you can see securing the booster ahead of launch.
SpaceX regularly lands the first stage of its smaller Falcon 9 rocket by using landing legs, but Musk said that he wants the Super Heavy to go without legs, primarily to reduce the rocket’s weight. It means that the catching maneuver is a crucial part of the Starship system.
