The timing couldn’t be more perfect, as one half of the brand’s design duo, Zoe Latta, . Yet Latta says Bambino was in the works before her pregnancy. “We [Mike Eckhaus and Latta] always joked about it because the best-selling item is a baby tee, which is actually a baby tee for adults.”While this is the label’s first full collection for tots, the two have designed for children in the past. For their spring 2015 collection, they created clothes for the children’s choir that performed at their show.
Latta recognizes that the Eckhaus Latta Bambino line isn’t inexpensive—the prices range from $95-$215–but she wants her clothes to be reworn and doesn’t want the pieces to be tossed if there is a stain or damage. She also notes that there’s a booming secondhand marketplace for kids' clothing. “People can hold on to things for another generation rather than treating them like a onesie that goes into the trash after getting a stain,” she says.
