Drivers with fancier vehicles are less likely to stop by 3 percent for every extra $1,000 their car is worth, a new study found

Drivers who don’t want to be considered a jerk on the road may want to think twice before purchasing an expensive car, according to new research., researchers from the University of Nevada found that people who drive fancier vehicles are less likely to share the road with other users and empathize less with pedestrians.

The study concluded that those who drive more expensive cars are less likely to stop and let pedestrians cross the street. The likelihood that the driver will slow down for pedestrians decreases by 3 percent for every extra $1,000 that the lavish vehicle costs. Researchers assessed the theory by shuffling volunteers in and out of crosswalks hundreds of times, documenting each time a car came by and then analyzing the driver’s behavior. The study theorized that drivers who were operating cars that cost more money may have “felt a sense of superiority over other road users,” the study explained, which would cause their “lack of yielding behavior.

So rich people are assholes, who woulda thought. I find them holding up traffic. I avoid getting behind a Lexus, Mercedes, or corvettes. It’s almost like they are wealthy enough they don’t have to worry about being to work on time! Drivers of expensive vehicles are less likely to have ever been in that position themselves, not being ones to walk to places like the commoners.

Tesla Driver Was Playing Game Before Deadly Crash. But Tesla Software Failed, TooFederal investigators say a Tesla driver who was killed in a 2018 crash was distracted by his phone while the car was set to autopilot — and that Tesla should have done more to prevent this 'foreseeable misuse of technology.' The Tesla driver should've revived and then beaten up for being an idiot. essentially they're blaming self-drive for lulling drivers into stupidity. this feels like they're looking for an excuse to go after tesla, as a single isolated incident means absolutely nothing and says absolutely nothing about tesla safety. The guy was distracted by his phone. How is that Tesla’s fault?
